Outside Consultant?

Outside Consultant? was created by TheOne
My company is really fast-paced, with demands coming from customers, from sales, from our vendors coming in constantly. We barely have time to breathe. My VP wants us to identify and pursue cost-cutting initiatives. I don't see how we will have the time to do a good job identifying the opportunities for cost-savings and I definitely don't believe we'll have the time to actually do whatever is necessary to achieve the cost savings. It's the "opportunity cost" problem: if we spend time on cost-savings, we won't be spending time on handling the company's business.

Shouldn't we bring in an outside consultant who can identify the cost-saving opportunities and then give us a road map for achieving them? This way we can stay focused on our work. What's the downside of bringing in a consultant?
