I've been hired as the new vice president of sales and marketing for a company and after a week of being here, I've become aware that the company has "no plans". Not a single department has a plan of any sort, written down in a formal document that has been reviewed and approved by either the owners or the executive team. No sales and marketing plans, no strategic plans, no financial plans.
There is a sales forecast and that number is put into a projected monthly financial forecast but neither come with a list of supporting assumptions. Throughout the company, there are just no documents that speak to what "objectives, strategies and tactics" are behind anything!
I'm a big advocate of planning and having plans on paper. How do you recommend I convince the owner and the exec team that spending the time and effort to create "plans on paper" is worthwhile?
